Meet Ellen, author of Math All Day

Hey there! I'm Ellen, author of Math All Day, and I'm glad you dropped by to learn more about me. Below, I'll share a bit about my education, teaching experience, philosophy, and perhaps a few fun facts.

MY EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

My bachelor's degree in Elementary Education is from the University of Michigan...go Wolverines! After receiving my bachelor's, I decided to pursue a master's in leadership. My first Master's Degree is from Johns Hopkins University in Teacher Leadership, but I also earned a second Master's Degree from the University of Maryland in Middle School Mathematics.

MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am currently a 6th and 7th grade math teacher. This is my sixth year as a middle school math teacher. Prior to making the move to middle school, I taught 5th grade for 16 years. I love being in middle school now and teaching Math All Day!

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching has always been about the why and the how behind the mathematics, with a fun twist. Since moving to middle school, I have really learned how to take seemingly straight forward math lessons and turn them into exciting sessions with a theme or a game. I love being the math person that knows all the tricks to solving problems. I'm also proud of becoming a go-to person for my coworkers when they are looking for fun ways to mix things up for their students.

FUN FACTS ABOUT LIFE OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL

I live near Washington, DC with my husband and two young daughters. We love going to the beach, playing board games, and spending time with family. In my spare time, I enjoy exercising, reading for pleasure, jigsaw puzzles, and sleeping in. My newest hobby is needlepointing, which I started in 2020. But when I'm not doing math or family stuff, you can probably find me reading on my kindle!
